Bayer has had a presence in Latin America for more than 110 years. The company has affiliates in almost every country in the region and enjoys a high level of awareness among consumers.
The Bayer Group in Latin America employs about 11,500 people and achieved sales of aprox. 2.7 billion Euros in 2006.
Through steady investment and optimization of its activities, Bayer has established strong positions in the countries of the region. Thanks to modern and environmentally compatible production facilities coupled with effective sales and marketing organizations, Bayer is able to benefit from the growth in the region and is committed to helping shape the business environment there.

Organization
To optimize the company’s activities and make better use of synergies in Latin America, a number of countries have been combined into regional organizations. The resulting organizational structure is as follows:
Andean region - includes Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. The regional headquarters are located in Bogotá, Colombia. The region accounts for about 16 percent of sales in Latin America, with Bayer HealthCare being the largest contributor. The Andean Region is home to four production and formulation sites, which are located in Colombia (Barranquilla and Cali) and Venezuela (Caracas and Maracay).
Brazil - is the largest single market for Bayer in Latin America. In 2006 Bayer’s Brazilian operations generated 34 percent of Latin American sales. Bayer CropScience plays the leading role in Brazil, followed by Bayer HealthCare. Bayer’s Brazilian headquarters are located in São Paulo. There are four production sites in Brazil, two in São Paulo and one each in Belford Roxo and Porto Alegre.
Central America and the Caribbean - this region includes Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Cuba and the Caribbean islands including Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Bahamas, Curacao and Aruba. Regional headquarters are in Guatemala. The region represents 9 percent of Bayer’s sales in Latin America and locates three production plants. Bayer HealthCare plays the leading role in Central America and the Caribbean, followed by Bayer CropScience.
Cono Sur region - comprises Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and Chile. The administrative and commercial headquarters are in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Cono Sur country group accounts for 13 percent of Bayer’s total business in Latin America. Bayer HealthCare and Bayer CropScience have the highest sales. The region’s manufacturing sites are located in Argentina: two in Pilar and a third one in Zárate.
Mexico - accounting for 28 percent of sales in Latin America, Mexico is the second largest market for Bayer in this region. The two leading subgroups are Bayer HealthCare and Bayer MaterialScience. Bayer’s Mexican headquarters are located in Mexico City, the country’s capital. Mexico is home to five Bayer production facilities located in Lerma, Mexico City, Santa Clara, Orizaba and Monterrey (joint-venture).
