Europe is Bayer's "Home Market"

In 2006 Bayer posted sales of nearly EUR 13 billion on the European market – a good 40 percent of the Group total. A comprehensive distribution network along with major production facilities in Germany, Belgium, France, the U.K., Italy, Spain and Finland give Bayer a strong presence in this important economic region, which has a population of almost half a billion people in the 27 E.U. countries alone.

Bayer has established its own companies or branches in virtually every country in eastern Europe.

In 2006 the company’s European sites accounted for around 45 percent of Bayer's worldwide capital expenditures and 65 percent of spending on research and development.

The Group employed a total of 57,800 people in its European companies on December 31, 2006.
