Bayer supports first-aid program in high schools

Last year Bayer donated CAD 25,000 for a nationwide initiative aimed at training young people to save lives. The goal of the project, which was established by the ACT Foundation, is to run first-aid courses in high schools throughout Canada.

The program equips young people with the skills and knowledge to help a parent or grandparent who is experiencing a heart attack or classmates who are choking, for example. In turn, the students pass on to their families their first-aid expertise and knowledge about heart health.

The ACT first-aid program is now established in several hundred high schools across Canada, reaching more than 100,000 young people in 2001. Bayer's donation supports ACT's goal of expanding the initiative to the rest of Canada for participation by 400,000 students each year.

The ACT Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Canadians about illnesses that can lead to prehospital emergencies. ACT's partners in the health care community include research-based pharmaceutical companies such as Bayer.
