Summer camp for Latvian children
In Sweden, Bayer supports a summer camp for children from Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden who suffer from hemophilia. Bayer's long-standing commitment to the camp gave 38 young people between the ages of seven and 16 the opportunity to forget the worries associated with their illness for one week last summer.
At the camp on Roslagen, a small island off the coast of Stockholm, the children were treated with Bayer's Koate DVI hemophilia drug under medical supervision. This made it possible to them to play without fear of dangerous injuries. This was a special experience for the children from the Baltic countries who cannot receive regular treatment with the expensive drug products.
During the summer camp, the young patients also received the opportunity to learn about how to handle their illness and the drugs used to treat it. They were also provided with information on how to better deal with the challenges of everyday life when they no longer have regular access to the medicines.
This project, which began in the mid-1990s, plays an important role in the enhancement of Bayer's image in northern Europe. The company donates medicines and provides financial support for the summer camp.
