Take it to the Heart
Compared to Anglo-Saxon and Mexican-Americans, African-Americans face a greater risk — nearly one in three — of high blood pressure. Advanced age compounds the likelihood for everyone, but the disparity betwenn the groups deserves special attention.
The Bayer-sponsored program Take It To the Heart addresses the hidden danger of hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and coronary heart disease. The program offered free comprehensive cardiovascular disease risk evaluations to participants, especially African-Americans, who are at greater risk for all four disorders. To offer this national program, Bayer collaborated with respected organizations such as the National Medical Association and the National Black Nurses Association.
