Promoting medical research
The search for new solutions
As a research-based pharmaceutical company, Bayer supports medical research partly by supporting worthwhile external medical research projects.
The company finances a research scholarship that is awarded every two years by an independent institution, the Research & Education Foundation of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Receiving support in particular are research projects that deal with cardiovascular, anti-infective and metabolic medicine.
The first scholarship was awarded in 1999 to Dr. Anne Corbould. Thanks to Bayer's support, Dr. Corbould was able to spend two years in the United States studying cellular and molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance.
