Science for Life
A science competition in British schools
In September 2001 Bayer joined with the Education Business Partnership to launch Science for Life (S4L), a science competition for high school students in the United Kingdom and Ireland that is aimed at identifying young people with a talent for the sciences..
The competition, which was recognized by the British government's Science Year initiative, is open to teams of up to four high school students over the age of 16 in the U.K. and Ireland who are following a science course.
At the center of the project is the Science for Life website, which contains a wealth of curriculum-based materials for teachers and students.
The website's four primary themes are the car, the farm, the home and the human body, and the teams each have to develop their research projects in one of these areas. The 36 regional winners present their projects via webcams, and the best project is determined in a public vote on the Internet.
