Supporting the hemophilia community

Hemophilia results from a deficiency in an essential blood-clotting factor, giving rise to spontaneous hemorrhages into muscles, joints or tissues. It is a hereditary disease, only affecting males. Hemophilia is a painful, disabling and currently still incurable disorder that affects up to 1,600 Australians. It is one of a number of blood-clotting disorders that need regular and expensive treatment.

Bayer provides meaningful support to Australia's hemophilia community through ongoing partnership with Hemophilia Foundation Australia (HFA).

Since 1995 Bayer has supported HFA with an annual sponsorship. These funds have enabled HFA to produce important educational resources for Australians with hemophilia. In 2001 Bayer Australia was a major sponsor of the first Australasian Hemophilia Conference. The company was also a major conference patron of national hemophilia conferences in 1997 and 1999.
