Bayer launched its integrated Group-wide Bayer Climate Program in 2007. The purpose of the program is to promote new solutions in climate protection and in dealing with climate change. An integral component of the program is to provide incentives for scientific innovations in this area. The Bayer Climate award was created in 2008 with this in mind.

This pioneering international award in climate research carries a sum of EUR 50,000 and will be presented at two-year intervals by the Bayer Science & Education Foundation for outstanding scientific achievements in the interdisciplinary field of climate research. The award seeks to honor basic research in scientific and technical disciplines capable to explain and limit climate change or manage its consequences.
The focus is currently on the following research areas:

  • Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, and Microbiology
  • Energy and Environmental Sciences
  • Material Sciences and Process Engineering
