Kurt Hansen scholarships

The next period for applications starts in June 2009.
Application for a Kurt Hansen scholarship is open to students studying to become science teachers as well as those who have already graduated (support must begin within two years following graduation). Assistance is also available for projects aimed at improving the training of science teachers.

Key support areas include study projects, internships, summer courses, preparatory and supplementary study courses and theses. The foundation places great emphasis on internationalism, and therefore grants scholarships exclusively for German students wishing to study abroad and foreign applicants wishing to study in Germany.

Applicants should be able to show good to very good final school marks as well as a particularly good intermediate diploma. Furthermore, a broad horizon and a high level of motivation and personal commitment are expected of all applicants – be it in a social, political or cultural field. In addition to the customary performance records and certificates, the application should include a summary of the applicant’s study plans with a statement explaining the desire for assistance, as well as a project cost calculation breaking down the demand for assistance.
Who receives support? Undergraduate students or those at a comparable stage of vocational training; former students who graduated less than two years ago.
What receives support? Study projects by German students abroad and by foreign students in Germany, such as internships, clinical work experience periods, semesters abroad, research projects, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral thesis projects.
How long is support provided? Up to 1 year
How much monetary support is provided? Support is generally intended to cover the cost of living, travel costs and incurred project costs. Each applicant can request a specific amount of support by submitting a “cost plan”, and the Board of Trustees then comes to a decision based on this request.
When is the scholarship paid out? The scholarship is paid out in installments according to an individually agreed payment plan.
What qualifies as project costs? Study fees, lab materials, books, seminars and lectures.
Do I need a specific project? Yes, as well as acceptance by the institution at which you will realize your project. You have until the end of the application period to submit a letter of acceptance.
When can I apply? Applications can once again be submitted between June 15 and July 31, 2009. Application forms will be available here again during this period.
When will I find out whether I have been selected to receive support? The next selection meeting will take place on September 25, 2009.
