In North America (United States and Canada) Bayer is represented by separate operating subsidiaries: Bayer Corporation in the United States headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Bayer Inc. in Canada headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. In 2007, the Bayer Group in North America achieved total sales from continuing operations of EUR 8.2 billion.

With more than 15,000 employees at more than 65 locations in the United States and Puerto Rico, the U.S. organization is the largest within the Bayer Group. Under the umbrella of Bayer Corporation, the U.S. holding company, Bayer markets the entire spectrum of its portfolio from the east to the west coast.
 
Two Bayer HealthCare divisions have their global headquarters in the United States: Consumer Care in Morristown, New Jersey, and Medical Care (Diabetes Care in Tarrytown, New York and MEDRAD in Warrendale, Pennsylvania).
 
To ensure further growth, the Bayer Group has more than 2,800 employees involved in Research & Development in North America. In addition, the company spent EUR 710 million on R&D in the region in 2006.
 
The North American research centers for crop protection and pharmaceuticals are integral elements in Bayer’s global research network spanning Europe, the United States and Japan.
 
Berkeley, California, is an important global R&D center for protein-based biologics drug discovery and home of the state-of-the-art Kogenate® biological manufacturing facility.
 
Bayer researchers in Stilwell, Kansas, work on innovative crop protection products to safeguard harvests against pests.
 
Baytown, Texas, and New Martinsville, West Virginia, are home to large polymer production sites for Bayer MaterialScience.
Bayer Inc. operates the Bayer Group’s HealthCare and MaterialScience businesses in Canada. Bayer CropScience Inc., headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, operates as a separate legal entity in Canada. Together, the companies play a vital role in improving the quality of life for Canadians – producing products that fight diseases, protecting crops and animals, and developing high-performance materials for applications in numerous areas of daily life.
 
Bayer’s Canadian facilities include the Toronto headquarters as well as offices in Ottawa and Calgary. Bayer Inc. has almost 2,200 employees across Canada.
