Creating a more sustainable planet means working to transform the entire value chain of agriculture. Bayer’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions goes beyond our own operations. We have the products, relationships, technology and talent to help companies across the agriculture supply chain reduce their carbon footprints.
Supported the adoption of sustainable practices on more than 3.6 million acres, with an additional 10 million acres in the pipeline.
More than 22 programs/projects across all regions generating high-integrity carbon credits and/or supporting our global customers to reduce their carbon footprints in the agricultural supply chain.
Our Ecosystem Services
Meeting carbon reduction targets across the supply chain is essential to tackling the climate crisis — and we offer science-based, scalable solutions tailored to different regions of the world to help your efforts create real impact. Our services include:
Data-Driven Insights and Recommendations
Not sure where to begin? We’ll chart a path to help you see what’s possible. We’ll also capture and report on metrics for sustainability at large, so you’ll have a better understanding of the contribution you’re making.
Scope 3 Reductions
Since 2019, Bayer has been collaborating with local and international stakeholders to develop greenhouse gas accounting frameworks for Scope 3 reporting. We will help you drive lasting change with growers whose practices impact your Scope 3 reduction targets. Additionally, our projects meet the specific standards of VERRA and Gold Standard, guiding you in integrating your Scope 3 reports. Our approach involves working closely with growers to encourage the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices, leveraging Bayer's agronomic expertise.
Carbon Credits
If you’ve done as much as possible to reduce your carbon footprint and still haven’t hit your targets, Bayer is generating high-quality and high-integrity carbon credits in agriculture to further offset your carbon footprint. Click here to find more information about the projects.
Low Carbon Label
We’ll guide you on how to communicate your reduced carbon impact to the consumers and businesses you market your products to.
What Sets Our Services Apart
Working with Bayer comes with valuable benefits. Here’s what we offer that many other sustainability service providers don’t.
Science-Based Approach
Guided by our purpose “Science for a better life,” we deliver innovations that address some of the biggest challenges in agriculture, from climate change to feeding a growing world population.
Scaling Up and Out
Our products and services are designed to help people and the planet thrive. We aim to create value through innovation and growth, while helping to drive sustainable agriculture development and generating a positive impact with our businesses.
Our Team of Experts
Bayer’s sustainable systems agronomists have extensive research experience, and our operational team continues to pioneer what’s possible in agriculture.
Climate FieldViewTM Platform
Currently used in over 20 countries on more than 200 million acres, the FieldViewTM platform simplifies and automates data collection for growers, while uniting data from each piece of their precision farming equipment. In the US, its subscribed acres represent more than half of all corn, soybean and cotton acres planted, and its vast footprint makes scalable practice verification possible. Access data from tractors, planters, sprayers and combines anywhere on practically any device. FieldView is a key enabler in developing the specific tools to address main climate challenges in the agriculture value chain, such as traceability.
The Bayer Advantage
Sustainability is a core commitment of Bayer’s business. Our greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) are in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. We’ve been at the forefront of setting global protocols for how carbon sequestration is measured and for verifying the impact of sustainable practices to ensure your products follow the appropriate standards.
ForGround is Bayer’s digital platform dedicated to helping growers explore, adopt, and scale regenerative agriculture practices. With millions of acres under its umbrella, ForGround delivers:
- Evidence-based agronomic guidance tailored to each operation
- Reduced cost barriers via member-only discounts and offers
- New revenue opportunities through participation in the Bayer Carbon Program
Growers who enroll can earn payments for implementing no-till, strip-till, cover crops, and nitrogen management practices.
PRO Carbono is Bayer’s regenerative solutions platform for Latin America. It combines science, technology, and field presence to turn regenerative agriculture into reality across Latin America.
For farmers, we provide tools and technical guidance to adopt regenerative practices that boost productivity, strengthen the resilience of agricultural areas, and reduce the carbon footprint of grain production.
For companies, PRO Carbono delivers integrated solutions that connect the entire agricultural value chain and support the achievement of sustainability, zero deforestation and decarbonization goals across their production chains.
Bayer’s EMEA Carbon Program is connecting growers to food value chain industry, the program helps cut Scope 3 emissions and supports farmers in adopting regenerative practices that reduce emissions and store carbon in soils.
Through digital tools and verified carbon projects, we ensure transparency and impact. The program is scaling across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa—making agriculture part of the climate solution.
In APAC, we are leading efforts to reduce methane emissions from rice cultivation—one of the region’s most significant agricultural emission sources—by implementing science-based practices and digital tools that enable the generation of high-quality, high-integrity voluntary carbon credits. These credits are backed by robust measurement, reporting, and verification frameworks, ensuring transparency and impact.
Building on this foundation, the program is expanding to other crops and geographies, integrating soil carbon initiatives that promote regenerative practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage, and optimized nutrient use. By connecting growers to food value chain partners, Bayer Ecosystem Services helps decarbonize supply chains and position agriculture as a climate solution across Asia-Pacific.

The Bayer Program recognized and rewarded the practices I was already using, and that support makes a real difference. It’s encouraging to see a company that genuinely cares about farmers.”
The Bayer Carbon Program is enhancing our farming practices by paying us per acre to adopt or continue using no-till and cover crop practices."
Regenerative agriculture practices have significantly improved our soil structure, reducing runoff and erosion. It has also helped lower our risk from extreme weather fluctuations.”
Farmers want to improve their farm, leave it better than what we received so we can bring back the next generation. We believe carbon will help do that.”
The partnership with Bayer provides a critical digital footprint in connecting Perdue directly with our farmers through Climate FieldView. This reach provides us with something we cannot do ourselves. It also gives us a unique connection with both our business customers and consumers of our products.”
For over 30 years, I've cultivated paddy, but joining the Rice Carbon Project in 2021 revolutionized my farming practices. Adopting AWD has reduced costs, optimized water use, and earned recognition within my community."
I’ve farmed rice on six acres for 20 years. Water scarcity and high labor costs led me to try Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) in 2022 with support from The Good Rice Alliance. After success on one acre, I expanded DSR to all six acres of my land and my brother’s four acres. This method has helped me save significant labor costs and reduce water use, making my farming more sustainable.”
My family has grown paddy for generations using traditional flooding. For the past two years, I’ve been using Alternative Wetting and Drying (AWD) after learning about it at a local farmer meeting. Since then, I’ve reduced fertilizer use, cut pesticide sprays, and saved significant water. My yields have improved by about 1 to 2 quintals per acre, and I save around ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 per acre. I have been working with the Bayer Rice Carbon Program for the last couple of years, which provided me with AWD pipes and trained me on their effective use. By monitoring water levels through the pipe, I reduced irrigation by two to three times, saving significant water. Best of all, my yield increased by two to three bags per season, each weighing 40 kilograms. I am truly grateful for this suppor
More on the Menu
Making farming more sustainable requires the adoption of technologies and practices that work across many interacting components. We’re addressing this first by focusing on ways we can reduce carbon emissions in supply chains and support growers in the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices – practices that benefit soil health, protect water resources, enhance biodiversity and support social and economic well-being. Our grower-centric approach to regenerative agriculture programs helps to achieve an array of important outcomes.
