Sonny Ramaswamy
Sonny Ramaswamy served from July 2018 to February 2025 as President of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, an accreditor of colleges and universities. Previously he was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as Director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, which catalyzes transformative discoveries, innovations, and education to address societal challenges. He has also served as Dean of Oregon State University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and as Director of Purdue University’s Agricultural Research Programs.
Sonny Ramaswamy was recently appointed as a member of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security.
Sonny Ramaswamy’s Bachelor’s and Master of Science (Agriculture) are from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, and his PhD (Entomology) is from Rutgers University. He is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America and Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
