How is Bayer responding to climate change?

We are committed to sustainable conduct, and as such aim to make positive contributions to climate protection and tackling climate change.

Bayer, as a company with a high level of energy consumption, has always been committed to environmental protection. Our process optimization work at Covestro - our business with high-performance materials which is now a legally independent entity - has led to marked reductions in our greenhouse gas emissions in the past. We aim to reaffirm this commitment as part of our strategic realignment to the Life Science areas of health care and nutrition. The focus in the future will lie on non-production areas such as IT or the vehicle fleet.

No Life without Soil

We have set ourselves the target of cutting our specific emissions of greenhouse gases by 20 percent by the year 2020, compared to the base year 2015.

We are also intensifying our work on resource-friendly products and solutions for our customers. Farming for example is facing major challenges which, in some regions of the world, will be further exacerbated by climate change: the task facing farmers now is how to feed a growing global population from a shrinking area of arable land. We are developing products aimed at helping farmers cope with the repercussions of climate change, for example with state-of-the-art seeds that produce larger harvest yields from the same amount of resources. Digital farming opens up new possibilities for resource-efficient cultivation by providing precise and prompt information and decision aids for specific sections of fields.
