Making Science Make Sense® History
The MSMS initiative has a legacy of supporting hands-on science learning.
Celebrating 20 Years of Making Science Make Sense
In 2015, Bayer’s Making Science Make Sense initiative marked its 20th anniversary. This important milestone provided an opportunity for us to look back at our major accomplishments, while setting new goals for the future.
For more than 20 years, Making Science Make Sense has built a legacy of elevating science literacy across the United States. One of the initiative’s most notable achievements has been spearheading elementary school science education reform in seven communities by creating new models that fundamentally change how science is taught. Since 1995, Bayer has also helped advance science learning nationwide for tens of thousands of teachers and hundreds of thousands of students through a combination of strategic partnerships and employee volunteerism. Lastly, Making Science Make Sense has been honored with numerous awards, including three presidential accolades – The President’s Service Award, The Ron Brown Award for Corporate Leadership, and The Presidential Award in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
At Bayer, our sights are set on a new Making Science Make Sense goal as we continue to encourage children’s scientific imaginations. In 2015, we launched a five-year commitment to provide 1 million hands-on science learning experiences for students by 2020. Through this ongoing commitment, Bayer hopes to educate, engage and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators while we increase science literacy across the country.
