BayGAP program continued to support durian growers in Thailand

Durian growers attending BayGAP program have gained the knowledge of good agricultural practice and sustainable agriculture which help empower them to grow better crops and increase opportunity access to global export markets.  


2022 is the fifth year of BayGAP program, a joint collaboration between Bayer Thai Co., Ltd, the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Extension, Kasetsart University, and the Southern Durian Association to host BayGAP training program to promote GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) certification through its BayGAP program on May 21-22, 2022 in Surat Thani province. The program attended by 120 smallholder farmers who grow durian from the southern region. 


The training was divided into 2 parts. The first part provided knowledge of GAP basics on the topics of field management, integrated pest management, water management systems, and food safety systems, etc. by qualified trainers i.e., Associate Professor Dr. Chainarong Rattanakreetakul, Department of Plant pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University Kampaengsaen campus; Dr.Pruetthichat Punyawutto, Chief of Entomology and Zoology Group, Plant Protection Research and Development Office, Department of Agriculture; Dr.Sansern Rungsuwan Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University Kampaengsaen Campus and Mr. Amorn Chernchaivachirakul Field Solution Manager, Crop Science Division of Bayer Thai Co., Ltd. 


The second part was a field training course at Lung Nong Durian Orchard, Phunphin District, Surat Thani, with training on durian planting assessment, waste and pollution management, and safety in using chemicals. 


After the farmers completed both training parts, they received a certificate confirming their knowledge and readiness for the GAP assessment from the Department of Agriculture.


The BayGAP Project is a project initiated by Bayer to support and develop farmers to have knowledge of good crop production according to standards for export along with safety in chemical use and correct practices, not only for durian, but also other crops such as potatoes, vegetables, etc.
