Launched in 2024, the initial phase of Bayer's Better Life Farming project focuses on supporting coffee and durian smallholder farmers, facilitating their transition toward innovative and regenerative agricultural practices. By providing access to innovative one-stop solution hubs and advisory services, the project aims to enhance farmers' livelihoods sustainably and transform the community in the backdrop of global warming.
During her visit, Dr. Wallat engaged with local farmers and agricultural value chain partners to understand the challenges posed by climate change, market linkages, and how the BLF initiative is providing comprehensive solutions to support the coffee and durian farming sectors. Vietnam is among the countries most affected by climate change, with extreme weather conditions severely impacting crop health and necessitating effective pest and disease management. Integrated management programs are crucial, including the application of advanced crop protection against pests, fungi and weeds; root care; soil nutrition optimization; precision irrigation. Key industry partners in both the public and private sectors play an essential role in these interventions.

As part of its commitment to empowering women in agriculture, Bayer has introduced the Women Ambassador in Sustainable Coffee Cultivation Community. This program, jointly supported by the Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center and Simexco Dak Lak LTD, a leading Vietnam coffee exporter, connects women farmers with essential agronomic and healthcare knowledge.
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Ai Lien, Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Agricultural Extension Center, the province currently cultivates over 214,000 hectares of coffee, generating income for more than 300,000 farming households, with over 70% of agricultural labor being women. However, despite their significant involvement, women often lack decision-making power in agricultural activities.
By equipping women farmer with the tools and resources needed to thrive in their farming businesses, this initiative not only enhances their productivity but also fosters community transformation. Empowering women leads to improved agricultural practices, increased family incomes, and better health and education outcomes for their children, ultimately contributing to the sustainable development of local communities.
“Our overarching objective is to position the Dak Lak coffee brand as one that is widely known and respected, not just for its exceptional quality and taste, but also for its embodiment of responsible, equality, and sustainable practices. ” Ms. Lien commented during the launch of the Women Ambassador in Sustainable Coffee Cultivation Community.

“Bayer is dedicated to fostering sustainable agriculture and supporting local communities,” said Maximillian Rummert, Managing Director of Bayer Vietnam. “Our initiatives not only enhance productivity but also contribute to the well-being of farmers and their families.
