Marana Innovation Center

Mission

At the Bayer Marana Innovation Center We Grow the Future. This mission drives everything we do — from using advanced technology and data-driven processes in corn seed production to investing in workforce development and supporting our local Southern Arizona community.

Our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled greenhouse plays a vital role in Bayer’s global vision of “Health for all, Hunger for none.” At Bayer Marana, we’re developing sustainable agricultural innovations that help farmers thrive, strengthen global food security, and contribute to a healthier planet.

Key Innovations at Marana

The Marana Innovation Center is home to several cutting-edge technologies and practices that are shaping the future of agriculture:

Precision Breeding: We accelerated the breeding process using advanced data analytics, AI, and DNA fingerprinting, enabling us to develop new corn varieties that are more resilient, productive, and environmentally friendly for every single region we do business worldwide.

Automated Planting Systems: Our facility utilizes state-of-the-art robots for precise planting and tracking of seeds, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our breeding processes.

Climate-Controlled Greenhouse: Our greenhouse allows us to grow crops year-round by providing ideal growing conditions. This includes advanced climate controls, automated irrigation systems, and integrated pest management techniques.

Short Stature Corn Development: One of our most innovative projects, short stature corn, offers improved stalk strength, higher-density planting, resulting in higher yield and increased resilience to environmental stressors, like intense winds and short droughts, marking a significant advancement in sustainable agriculture.

These innovations are not only enhancing agricultural productivity but also contributing to global sustainability by reducing the environmental footprint of farming.

Bayer in the Community

At the Bayer Marana Innovation Center we are dedicated to reducing resource use and promoting sustainable farming practices that minimize waste and maximize efficiency.

  • By leveraging technology, our advanced greenhouse is not only enhancing productivity but also reducing the environmental impact of farming, making agriculture more sustainable for the future.
  • With a focus on biodiversity and water conservation we're protecting vital ecosystems while using water resources more efficiently.
  • At the Bayer Marana Innovation Center, we use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to protect crops while minimizing environmental impact. By incorporating natural solutions like releasing ladybugs as biological control, we reduce pesticide use and promote healthier, more sustainable farming practices.

Volunteerism in Action

Our team actively gives back, contributing thousands of hours each year to local causes. Our community engagement is centered around four key themes: Sustainability, STEM Education, Agriculture, and Health & Nutrition — areas that reflect both the passions of our workforce and Bayer’s global objectives for meaningful impact. From supporting FFA programs to participating in food drives, Bayer Marana employees are proud to help create a stronger, healthier Southern Arizona.

Bayer Fund: Investing in Community

As the philanthropic arm of Bayer in the United States, Bayer Fund develops programs and makes strategic investments in qualified nonprofit organizations addressing critical issues—such as combating malnutrition and food insecurity, and supporting patients and families affected by cardiovascular disease and cancer.

At the local level, the Bayer Marana Innovation Center is proud to be part of this effort. In just five years, we’ve donated $400,000 to Southern Arizona charities through community giving and the Bayer Fund.
