Marana Arizona Greenhouse

At the Marana greenhouse we are reimagining the way corn is grown around the world while setting the standard for environmental sustainability.

This state-of-the-art seven-acre indoor climate-controlled facility allows us to grow corn for seed production in ideal climate conditions with three to four crop cycles annually.

More than 100 employees from diverse backgrounds and skill sets work in the greenhouse, including agronomic research specialists, biologists, engineers, environmental specialists, and data scientists.

The facility helps to move new corn products through to development faster so farmers around the world can benefit from the latest innovations to help corn better adapt to various climate conditions around the world.

With the continuing shortage of farmland, the technology used in the greenhouse will play an important role in growing crops and increasing yield while using fewer resources.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

A wide range of subject matter experts from engineering, construction, automation, and horticulture worked to make the Marana greenhouse a leading facility in sustainability.

At Bayer, we believe every investment in innovation should also be an investment in sustainability. By doing so, we can shape a more sustainable future for one of the world’s most important industries. And as an agriculture leader, we have the opportunity – and responsibility – to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and food security to create a better tomorrow for our planet.

Each step of the growing process is designed to reduce the environmental footprint. The greenhouse recycles almost 100 percent of the water used and composts 100 percent of the harvested materials.

The Marana greenhouse facility also uses integrated pest management practices that leverage biological controls and beneficial insects to control harmful bugs, such as aphids, that would damage the crops. This process reduces the need for other crop protection methods such as pesticides.

The Marana greenhouse is one way to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and food security to create a better tomorrow for the world.

Inside the Marana Arizona Greenhouse
The Marana Greenhouse features 7 acres or 300,000 sq. ft of greenhouses or glasshouses. That’s almost 7 football fields dedicated to growing space to develop hybrid corn. Because of a world-class design, the growing space at Marana is equivalent of 190 acres of field corn production.
