Fighting Food Waste: Bayer Joins New Jersey Meal Recovery Coalition
Do you ever wonder what happens to the leftover food from our cafeteria? The short answer: we’re helping make sure it finds a stomach, not a landfill.
Since 2024, our food‑service team, FLIK, has been partnering with the nonprofit Share My Meals to pack and route surplus food from our Whippany Cafeteria to trusted community groups. In 2025 alone, this effort helped save 14,323 pounds of food—equivalent to 11,349 meals.
In addition, Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S., provided a $50,000 grant to Share My Meals in 2025. To build on these efforts in 2026, Bayer joined the Meal Recovery Coalition (MRC), a statewide initiative led by Share My Meals that transforms surplus meals into a dependable food source for neighbors in need.
MRC partner organizations recovered more than 770,000 meals in 2024, preventing millions of pounds of greenhouse gas emissions that would have been generated if those meals had gone to the landfill.
We’re proud to join the MRC and help turn surplus food into nutritious meals for people who need them most — advancing our mission Health for all, Hunger for none. We look forward to continuing our work with FLIK, Share My Meals, and the MRC to support sustainable solutions at our site and give back to the communities where we live and work.
