Thomas (Tom) Armitage serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and as Global Head of Communications for the Crop Science division of Bayer. Based in Monheim, Germany, Armitage is responsible for the communications strategy for Crop Science, building trust and driving engagement with external and internal audiences, as well as enabling the business to deliver to customers and stakeholders.

 

With over 20 years of experience in corporate communications and journalism, Armitage is passionate about the role communications can play in helping businesses to bring their value, purpose, and strategy to life through internal and external communications, brand building, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement. 

 

Armitage joined Bayer in 2021 from Mondelez International, the world’s leading snack food maker, where he held various roles of increasing responsibility in the Corporate Affairs team. Most recently, he was based in Chicago as Head of Global External Communications, leading financial and sustainability communications, media relations, and digital and social media as part of the Global Corporate and Government Affairs leadership team. Previously, Armitage held the position of Head of Corporate and Government Affairs for Mondelez Europe, with responsibility for internal and external communications, as well as government relations for the company’s largest business unit, and was based in Zurich. 

 

Prior to Mondelez, Armitage worked for Zurich-based reinsurance company Swiss Re in media relations and issues management roles. He began his career as a correspondent for Reuters news agency, covering financial, economic, and political news from London, Vienna, Zurich, and Berlin. 

 

A British citizen, Armitage holds a Masters degree in Communication Management from the University of Lugano in Switzerland (USI), as well as a Masters degree in Modern and Medieval Languages (French and German) from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, in the UK.

 

Armitage and his husband enjoy hiking, running, art and music.
