Bayer advances a culture of Inclusion and Diversity to drive innovative solutions. We embrace and encourage our employees’ unique identities and believe that our human capital is one of our most valuable assets.
The collective sum of individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our employees invest in their work represents a significant part of not only our culture and reputation, but Bayer’s success as well. Inclusion & Diversity plays an important role in meeting and anticipating the needs of our customers and achieving our overall vision: Health for all, Hunger for none. To sustain and grow our business across all world areas, we require diverse business perspectives and the flexibility to work with a variety of people wherever we conduct business.
Bayer’s Inclusion & Diversity Strategy focuses on four pillars:
Given an increasingly diverse customer base and global talent pool, we strive for an inclusive culture which gives us full access to both. We explicitly make inclusion part of our values and accountabilities.
We recognize that the best talent exists amongst all communities and that our organization must be inclusive of that diverse talent. This entails inclusive processes and behaviors for hiring, promotion and other people-related interactions across the employee experience.
External studies show diverse companies drive innovation and outperform the business competition. Multi-culturally segmenting customers and understanding them through this lens as well as engaging a diverse array of suppliers will help us grow our business.
How effectively we engage our customers and those who consume our image is dependent on our brand. Shareholders concerned with our culture and its impact on the bottom line, current and future employees who shape our employer value proposition, and stakeholders who expect visible leadership, all set high expectations for a brand of inclusion & diversity.
We employ people from around 150 nations. Creating an inclusive environment where employees of all genders, ethnicities, backgrounds, abilities and orientations feel welcome and able to contribute is core to creating a great place to work. Our employees proudly reflect the society we live in and demonstrate the value of diverse thinking in bringing best in class solutions for the benefit of all. We search for the brightest talent, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.
Goal of Gender Parity in Management
Within Bayer we have set ourselves the goal of gradually establishing gender parity at all management levels by 2030. In addition, we want to significantly strengthen further dimensions of inclusion and diversity in the company in the coming years.
For example, the composition of top management will increasingly reflect the national and cultural background of Bayer’s business footprint. The interests of all generations and of LGBT + employees should be adequately represented within the company. And we want to increase the proportion of people with disabilities in the workforce to more than 5 percent by 2030.
Business Resource Groups (BRGs)
BRGs are a vital part of Bayer’s Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) efforts. By giving a voice to diverse constituencies within our company and to our customers, the business resource groups assist Bayer with cultivating an inclusive workplace and bringing targeted products and services to our customers. BRGs are voluntary, company sponsored groups of employees who work together to promote inclusion within Bayer and provide a multicultural lens to Bayer’s engagement of our customers and the communities in which we have operations. Business resource groups present opportunities for employees to participate in on the job leadership development experiences at the site, national and global level that align with our LIFE values.
You will gain critical skills, contribute unique insights on business objectives, and actively take part in strengthening Bayer’s inclusive culture.
Three of Bayer’s nine company recognized BRGs have a global footprint with chapters in several continents:
Intensive dialogue with leading rating agencies is very important to us. The results of these ratings serve as the basis for continuous improvement measures at Bayer.
Each are globally sponsored by a Board of Management member and Executive Sponsor from the business to 1) receive direct mentorship and business guidance to support critical I&D objectives and 2) provide reverse mentorship to the executives along with multicultural perspectives to help them shape how we engage our customers, community and culture. Additionally, all nine of Bayer’s business resource groups have local sponsors at the country and/or local site level to support their efforts.
Our focus on supplier diversity allows us to tap into suppliers that have the potential to reduce supply chain risk and be more responsive, innovative and in tune with changing preferences. Learn more about Bayer’s Supplier Diversity Program.
Employees are also encouraged to create change in their local communities, bringing our overall mission “Science for a better life” to life. Bayer’s Foundations support projects around the world. Learn more about Bayer’s Foundations.
