Nourishing the World through Sustainable Agriculture

Corn Cob

Agriculture plays a pivotal role in ensuring food security and sustainability. With the global population projected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the demand for food will increase dramatically. Bayer is committed to advancing agricultural practices that not only increase productivity but also promote environmental stewardship and resilient food systems, as well as access and availability to high-quality, nutritious foods.

While some may take food for granted, we continue to live in a world where 1 in 10 people don’t have enough to eat1, and 2 billion people lack access to essential nutrients. Food systems are fragile as crises, conflicts, economic shocks, climate change, and deepening inequalities continue to impact people’s access to food. High food inflation is heavily impacting the availability and affordability of daily meals, while at the same time, one third of the food produced globally is still lost or wasted between farm and fork.   And despite scientific breakthroughs and many efforts of the international community, we are today back at hunger levels not seen since 2005.

Nutrition's foundation is in agriculture. Farmers face many challenges in their fields, from weeds to pests to ever changing weather patterns. It is essential they are equipped with the right tools to produce a variety of crops to ensure accessible, affordable, and nutritious foods in every community across the globe."

At Bayer, we believe a world in which Health for all, Hunger for none is possible. We are a global leader in health and agriculture and innovate to help farmers bring high quality, abundant and diverse food to the table for millions of people every day.

Beyond Growing More

Our business supports the production of a wide variety of food crops, from staple grains like corn, soybeans, rice and wheat to fruits, vegetables, pulses and nuts.

While our primary aims are to enhance crop efficiency, yields and resilience, we also aim to improve the quality of harvests, including factors such as taste, transportability and shelf life.

Our portfolio of innovative products and solutions, including seeds, crop protection products and digital tools, empowers farmers to produce these high quality, nutritious foods for people and animals in a sustainable and increasingly regenerative way.

Innovating for Resilience and Sustainability

We support farmers with new ways to improve their productivity, preserve Earth’s limited natural resources and increase food system resilience in the face of rapidly changing climatic conditions, geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, and fragile supply chains.

Our scientists deliver innovations like drought- and heat-tolerant seed varieties, crop protection and biological solutions that will make food production more resilient to extreme weather events, as well as novel solutions to address evolving pest and disease pressures.

In parallel, we promote and build capacity for regenerative practices so that farmers can not only produce more with less resources, but also restore natural resources like soil and water.

Engaging with farmers, governments, and stakeholders across the value chain is crucial.  Together, through innovation, collaboration and a steadfast commitment to sustainability, we can build resilient food systems that meet the needs of all.

Nourishing the World

Achieving good nutrition goes beyond simply consuming enough calories; it requires a diverse diet rich in various food groups. Bayer is uniquely positioned to help enable millions of people to have access to proper nutrition, from food to supplements.
