How Does Bayer Care for its Research Animals?

For a research-based company like Bayer animal studies are unavoidable. But, we work hard to keep the animals in our care safe, healthy, and comfortable. Our responsibility already begins with the origin of our animals. We work very closely with authorized breeders. Experts ensure the appropriate animal husbandry including measures like secluded areas and toys. We also collaborate with organizations to find new homes for our laboratory animals.

A team of professionals e.g. veterinarians, biologists and animal caretakers, who work closely with the Animal Management Institute and the Animal Welfare Officer. Their efforts closely follow the German Animal Welfare Law to feed, train and house animals in an appropriate manner for their species.

Dogs or cats are entered into an adoption program whenever possible. If laboratory animals have to be euthanized after the study, appropriate and authorized methods are used.
